Similar sentiments were expressed by the star center three quarter when questioned as to the probable outcome of today’s game. “We are confident of retaining the Cup, a few of the areas in which we have been vulnerable have been sorted out” said Liyanage. The Kandyan rugby empire has not asserted its superiority this season. Yet all silverware would end up in the already glittering clubhouse at Nittawela, barring an exceptional performance. Yes, its’ the Cup final day. The glamour and pageantry of the dominant Kandy sports club would be put to an acid test by the ever-persisting CR & FC, desperate to remove their tag as perennial second best.
